Wood wax with poplar resin

Ingredients

  • 30 g beeswax (pastilles or grated)
  • 100 ml poplar bud oil (see the recipe above)
  • a soft, lint-free cloth for applying

Method

  1. Put the beeswax and oil in a glass jar and stand the jar in a pan with a little water.
  2. Heat gently and stir until the wax has melted completely, about 10–15 min. Do not let the water boil hard.
  3. Lift the jar out and pour the mixture straight into clean small jars.
  4. Leave to set for 2 hrs at room temperature, without lids. Then close them.
  5. Clean and dry the wood. Test on a hidden spot first. Work a thin layer of wax in with the cloth, along the grain.
  6. Leave for 20–30 min to soak in, then buff with a clean, dry cloth until the wood has a soft shine.

Storing: Closed, in a cool, dark place for 6 months. Do not use on lacquered or varnished wood. Spread oily cloths out to dry outdoors rather than screwing them up in the bin: oil residues can heat up and even catch fire.
