Rose balm for dry hands

  • Makes: ± 4 small jars of 30 ml
  • Time: 30 min + 3–4 weeks infusing
  • From: Japanese rose

Ingredients

  • 15 g thoroughly dried rose petals
  • 150 ml sunflower or sweet almond oil
  • 15 to 20 g beeswax

Method

  1. Put the well-dried petals in a clean, dry jar and pour the oil over until they are covered.
  2. Leave to infuse for 3 to 4 weeks in a warm spot out of the sun, shaking daily.
  3. Strain the oil through a cloth and squeeze out the petals.
  4. Melt 100 ml of the rose oil with the beeswax in a bain-marie; more wax gives a firmer balm.
  5. Pour the warm mixture into clean small jars and leave to set uncovered.
  6. Close the jars and write the date on them. Test the balm on a small patch of skin first.

Storing: Cool and dark; use within 6 to 12 months and throw it away if it smells rancid.
