Lipstick plant: when to prune it?
Prune after flowering, in September, to keep the plant compact and bushy.
What else to prune in those months? September
Lipstick plant: how to prune it?
- Cut long, bare stems back to 15–20 cm, just above a pair of leaves.
- Remove old, leafless stems completely.
- Use the cut tips as cuttings.
- Do not prune in spring: the flowers appear at the stem tips.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: September.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- A houseplant lives indoors, so wildlife hardly notices the pruning. Healthy clippings can go on the compost.
Caution: Do not prune in spring, or you will cut off the flower buds.
