Aluminium plant: when to prune it?
Pinch out the tips regularly throughout the growing season, from March to August. Cut back a leggy, bare plant hard in March or April.
What else to prune in those months? March · April · May · June · July · August
Aluminium plant: how to prune it?
- Pinch or snip out the tips of young shoots just above a pair of leaves; two new shoots form below.
- In March–April, cut long, bare stems back to a few pairs of leaves above the compost.
- Remove yellow and fallen leaves so no mould develops on the compost.
- Use the tips you cut off as cuttings.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: March–August.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- A houseplant lives indoors, so wildlife hardly notices the pruning. Healthy clippings can go on the compost.
