Quaking grass: when to prune it?
Cut off the spent stems in August and comb the dead leaves out of the tuft in March.
Quaking grass: how to prune it?
- In August, cut the flower stems just above the foliage, or leave them until the seed has dropped.
- In March, comb out the old, dead leaves with your fingers or a small rake.
- In a wildflower meadow: mow at the end of August and remove the cuttings, so that the soil stays poor.
How much to cut, and how often?
- There are 2 pruning periods a year: March and August. You don’t have to prune in every one.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- As a native plant, it feeds more insects than a non-native species.
