| Good for bees, butterflies and birds | Yes, for bees |
| Native to Belgium | No, planted |
Blue daisy: when to prune it?
In April for overwintered plants and lightly in July after the first flush.
Blue daisy: how to prune it?
- Cut overwintered plants back by about half in April, to just above a few leaves.
- In July remove spent tips and long, sparse shoots for a second flush.
- Cut dead or weak stems out completely.
- Keep the plant bushy by regularly pinching out the tips.
How much to cut, and how often?
- There are 2 pruning periods a year: April and July. You don’t have to prune in every one.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- Blue daisy flowers in June–October, when it attracts bees.
- If pruning falls during flowering, wait until it is over or leave part of the plant to flower, so bees and butterflies still benefit.
Caution: Do not cut into old bare wood: it is slow to regrow there. Leave at least a few leaves on each stem.
