Indian shot: when to prune it?
Cut the stems down in October–November, once the first frost has blackened the leaves, before lifting the rhizomes.
Indian shot: how to prune it?
- Cut the stems back to 10–15 cm above the ground.
- Then carefully lift the rhizomes with a garden fork.
- In summer, cut off spent flower clusters to prolong flowering.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: October–November.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- Don’t cut more than you need to: what stays standing gives insects and birds food and shelter.
Caution: If you want to sow, let a few seed capsules ripen and collect the seed before the frost.
