Rieger begonia: when to prune it?
Remove faded flowers throughout the flowering period. After flowering, in March–April, you can cut the plant back.
Rieger begonia: how to prune it?
- Snip off faded flowers with their stalk, as close to the leaves as possible.
- After flowering, cut all stems back to 8–10 cm, just above a leaf.
- Remove yellow and rotten leaves straight away.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: March–April.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- A houseplant lives indoors, so wildlife hardly notices the pruning. Healthy clippings can go on the compost.
Caution: Use a clean, sharp knife or scissors: ragged wounds rot quickly. Rieger begonia is poisonous: wear gloves and keep clippings away from children, pets and livestock.
