What else to prune in those months? April · May · June · July
String of pearls: how to prune it?
- Cut over-long or bare stems back with clean scissors.
- Lay the trimmed pieces on the compost to fill the top of the pot again.
- Remove dried-up or rotten stems.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: April–July.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- A houseplant lives indoors, so wildlife hardly notices the pruning. Healthy clippings can go on the compost.
Caution: Wear gloves or wash your hands after pruning: the sap can irritate the skin. Clear up trimmings and fallen beads so that pets cannot get at them. String of pearls is poisonous: wear gloves and keep clippings away from children, pets and livestock.
