Agrimony: when to prune it?
Remove the old stems in March; mow a meadow in September.
Agrimony: how to prune it?
- Leave the faded spikes standing over winter: they give structure and shelter insects.
- In March, cut the dead stems just above the new leaf rosette.
- Mow a flower meadow in September, once the fruits are ripe, and remove the cuttings.
- Cut off spikes with fruits if you do not want them in your dog’s coat.
How much to cut, and how often?
- There are 2 pruning periods a year: March and September. You don’t have to prune in every one.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- As a native plant, it feeds more insects than a non-native species.
