Goldfish plant: when to prune it?
Cut long stems back after flowering (September–October) or in early March, before new growth.
Goldfish plant: how to prune it?
- Shorten long, bare or untidy stems by about half, just above a pair of leaves.
- Cut off faded flowers and dead or yellow leaves.
- In autumn a light trim is enough; in March you can cut back harder.
- Use the cut tips of 8–10 cm as cuttings.
How much to cut, and how often?
- There are 2 pruning periods a year: March and October. You don’t have to prune in every one.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- A houseplant lives indoors, so wildlife hardly notices the pruning. Healthy clippings can go on the compost.
Caution: Do not prune in full flower: you would remove buds and blooms.
