Gynura aurantiaca

Purple passion is best pruned in March–May.

Key facts
Pruning monthsMarch–May

Purple passion: when to prune it?

Regularly between March and May, and trim lightly in summer if it gets too long.

What else to prune in those months? March · April · May

Purple passion: how to prune it?

  1. Pinch out the tips of long shoots for a bushy plant.
  2. Cut shoots that are bare or too long back to just above a leaf.
  3. Remove dead or faded leaves and the flower buds.
  4. Use the pieces as cuttings; this keeps the plant young.

How much to cut, and how often?

  • One pruning period a year: March–May.

What does it mean for wildlife?

  • A houseplant lives indoors, so wildlife hardly notices the pruning. Healthy clippings can go on the compost.

Caution: Cut with clean scissors and touch the leaves as little as possible because of the hairs.
