Yellow oxeye: when to prune it?
In July–August, remove faded flowers; cut the dead stems down in March.
Yellow oxeye: how to prune it?
- Regularly cut faded flowers back to a leaf or side bud.
- Leave the dead stems standing over winter as shelter for insects and cut them just above the ground in March.
- If you want it to self-seed a little, leave a few flowers at the end of summer.
How much to cut, and how often?
- There are 2 pruning periods a year: March and July–August. You don’t have to prune in every one.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- Yellow oxeye flowers in June–August, when it attracts bees and butterflies.
- If pruning falls during flowering, wait until it is over or leave part of the plant to flower, so bees and butterflies still benefit.
