Sago palm: when to prune it?
Hardly needed. In April, remove only old leaves that are completely yellow or brown.
What else to prune in those months? April
Sago palm: how to prune it?
- Cut old leaves off close to the trunk with sharp secateurs.
- Do not remove green or half-yellow leaves: the plant still draws nutrients from them.
- Wear thick gloves and clear up all the cuttings straight away.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: April.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- A houseplant lives indoors, so wildlife hardly notices the pruning. Healthy clippings can go on the compost.
Caution: Cut leaves and seeds are toxic too: dispose of them at once, out of reach of children and animals. Sago palm is poisonous: wear gloves and keep clippings away from children, pets and livestock.
