Golden lace: how to prune it?
- Cut all dead stems down to 10 cm above the ground.
- Leave the seed heads standing in autumn and winter for winter interest.
- To keep the plant lower, cut the shoots back by a third at the end of May; flowering will be a little later.
- Remove dead leaves from the base of the rosette.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: March.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- Golden lace flowers in July–October, when it attracts bees and butterflies.
- If you only cut back in March, the old stems stand through the winter: insects overwinter in them and birds eat the seeds.
