Pineappleweed: when to prune it?
In August–September, if you want to stop it self-seeding too much.
Pineappleweed: how to prune it?
- Pull up spent plants before most of the seeds are ripe, if you want fewer seedlings.
- If you want to keep it, leave some of the plants until the seed has dropped.
- Dead plants can go on the compost heap, preferably before the seeds are ripe.
- On a path there is nothing to do: trampling keeps it low by itself.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: August–September.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- Don’t cut more than you need to: what stays standing gives insects and birds food and shelter.
