Foamflower: when to prune it?
Foamflower is hardly pruned. Remove damaged leaves in March and cut off the faded spikes in June.
Foamflower: how to prune it?
- In March, cut or pull off withered and damaged leaves; leave the healthy evergreen foliage.
- In June, cut faded flower stems back to the leaves.
- If the runners creep too far, cut them off and use the young plantlets elsewhere.
How much to cut, and how often?
- There are 2 pruning periods a year: March and June. You don’t have to prune in every one.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- Foamflower flowers in April–June, when it attracts bees.
- If pruning falls during flowering, wait until it is over or leave part of the plant to flower, so bees and butterflies still benefit.
