Greater celandine: when to prune it?
Cut back after the first flowering in July; clear old stems in March.
Greater celandine: how to prune it?
- In July cut the flowering stems back to 10–15 cm: the plant regrows and flowers again.
- Leave some growth standing in autumn; old stems and leaves shelter small creatures.
- In March cut away anything dead before the new leaves come.
How much to cut, and how often?
- There are 2 pruning periods a year: March and July. You don’t have to prune in every one.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- As a native plant, it feeds more insects than a non-native species.
Caution: Wear gloves and keep the orange sap away from your eyes.
