Daffodil: when to prune it?
No pruning. Only mow or cut the leaves once they have turned yellow, from mid-June.
What else to prune in those months? June
Daffodil: how to prune it?
- If you like, cut off spent flowers just below the flower and leave the stalk.
- Leave the leaves for at least six weeks after flowering, until they turn yellow and flop over.
- Do not knot or plait the leaves: they then make less food.
- Mow a daffodil meadow from mid-June and remove the cuttings.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: June.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- As a native plant, it feeds more insects than a non-native species.
Caution: Mow the leaves too early and you will get lots of leaves and few flowers the following year.
