Spruce-resin salve
- Makes: ± 100 ml
- Time: 1 hr
- From: Norway spruce
Ingredients
- 20 g hardened spruce resin, free of bark
- 80 ml olive or sunflower oil
- 10 g beeswax
Method
- Put the resin and oil in an old jar or bowl and stand it in a pan of hot water (bain-marie).
- Let the resin melt slowly over a low heat for 30 to 45 minutes, stirring now and then. Never let the oil smoke or boil.
- Strain the mixture through a fine sieve or an old cloth to remove bits of bark and needles.
- Return the warm oil to the bain-marie and melt the beeswax into it.
- Pour the salve into small, clean jars and let them cool uncovered before closing.
Storing: Keeps for about a year in a cool, dark place. Traditionally used on rough, dry hands.
