Lavender oil for skin and bath
- Makes: ± 250 ml
- Time: 15 min + 3–4 weeks infusing
- From: English lavender
Ingredients
- 25 g thoroughly dried lavender flowers
- 250 ml sweet almond, sunflower or olive oil
Method
- Only use thoroughly dried flowers: moisture in fresh flowers makes the oil go mouldy.
- Put the flowers in a clean, dry jar and pour in the oil until they are covered by 2 cm.
- Close the jar and leave it in a warm spot out of the sun for 3 to 4 weeks; shake daily.
- Strain the oil through a cloth and squeeze the flowers well.
- Pour the oil into a dark bottle and write the date on the label.
- Use as a massage or body oil, or as the base for a balm. A splash in the bath makes the tub slippery: take care getting out.
Storing: Cool and dark; use within 6 to 12 months and throw it away if it smells rancid.
