Olive leaf soap
- Makes: ± 6 soaps of 50 g
- Time: 1 hr + 4 hrs drying and setting
- From: Olive tree
Ingredients
- 300 g clear glycerine soap base (melt and pour)
- 2 tablespoons finely ground dried olive leaf (about 30 g fresh leaves)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 silicone mould with 6 cavities
Method
- Pick healthy, unsprayed olive leaves, rinse them and pat them dry.
- Dry them for 2–3 hrs on a baking tray in an oven at 60 °C, until they are dry and snap.
- Grind the dried leaves very finely in a coffee grinder or mortar and sieve out the coarse bits.
- Cut the soap base into cubes and melt them in a bain-marie or in the microwave (30 sec at a time) until liquid. Do not let the soap boil. Take care: melted soap is hot.
- Stir in the olive oil and leaf powder. Leave to cool for 2–3 min until the soap just starts to thicken and stir again, so the powder does not sink to the bottom.
- Pour the soap into the mould and leave to set for 2 hrs. Push the soaps out of the mould and let them dry for another day.
Storing: Dry, wrapped in paper or a cloth, for up to 1 year. For external use only and not edible: keep out of reach of young children. Avoid the eyes and patch-test on a small area if you have sensitive skin.
