What else to prune in those months? March · June

Corn mint: how to prune it?

  1. Leave the faded stems standing over winter: small insects overwinter in them.
  2. In March, cut them to just above the ground, before the new shoots appear.
  3. For fresh leaves, cut the plant back by half in June; it soon regrows and flowers afterwards.
  4. Cut stems with rust down to the ground straight away.

How much to cut, and how often?

  • There are 2 pruning periods a year: March and June. You don’t have to prune in every one.

What does it mean for wildlife?

  • As a native plant, it feeds more insects than a non-native species.
