Blue moor grass: when to prune it?
Evergreen: do not cut it back, only tidy it in late February before flowering, and remove spent stems in June if you wish.
Blue moor grass: how to prune it?
- Comb the dead, brown leaves out of the clump with your fingers.
- Cut away last year’s old flower stems.
- In June, cut off the spent stems if you do not like them, or leave them if you want to collect seed.
How much to cut, and how often?
- There are 2 pruning periods a year: February and June. You don’t have to prune in every one.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- As a native plant, it feeds more insects than a non-native species.
Caution: Do not cut it short in March: you would remove the young flower spikes.
