Wavy hair grass: when to prune it?
It is not cut back. In March, comb out the dead leaves and, if you like, cut off the spent panicles in August.
Wavy hair grass: how to prune it?
- In March, remove dead leaves from the tuft with gloved hands or a small rake.
- From August, cut spent panicles off just above the foliage if you do not want seedlings.
- Do not cut the tuft itself short: the green foliage is its ornamental value in winter too.
How much to cut, and how often?
- There are 2 pruning periods a year: March and August. You don’t have to prune in every one.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- As a native plant, it feeds more insects than a non-native species.
