What else to prune in those months? March
Korean feather reed grass: how to prune it?
- Tie the clump together with string and cut it off in one go with shears or secateurs, 10–15 cm above the ground.
- Do not leave it too late: if the new shoots are already tall, you will cut off their tips.
- Chop up the cut stems before adding them to the compost heap.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: March.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- If you only cut back in March, the old stems stand through the winter: insects overwinter in them and birds eat the seeds.
Caution: Do not cut back in autumn: the old clump protects the heart of the plant and gives insects shelter in winter.
