Flame violet: when to prune it?
In spring (March), and in between as needed.
What else to prune in those months? March
Flame violet: how to prune it?
- Pinch out the tips of long shoots to get a bushier plant.
- Cut overly long or bare runners back, or pot them up as new plantlets.
- Remove dead or brown leaves at the base.
- Cut bare or yellowing stems right out; the plant soon regrows.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: March.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- A houseplant lives indoors, so wildlife hardly notices the pruning. Healthy clippings can go on the compost.
Caution: Cut with clean scissors and do not prune a cold, wet plant: it is more likely to get mould.
