Carpathian bellflower: when to prune it?
During flowering, remove spent flowers; in August, after the main flush, trim the plant lightly. In March, clear away old stems.
Carpathian bellflower: how to prune it?
- Cut off spent flowers with their little stalk down to the leaves.
- After the main flush, trim the whole clump lightly for a neat shape and sometimes a small second flush.
- In March, remove dead stems and leaves before new growth starts.
How much to cut, and how often?
- There are 2 pruning periods a year: March and August. You don’t have to prune in every one.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- Carpathian bellflower flowers in June–August, when it attracts bees.
- If pruning falls during flowering, wait until it is over or leave part of the plant to flower, so bees and butterflies still benefit.
