What else to prune in those months? April
Curry plant: how to prune it?
- Cut all stems back by about a third, just above young, leafy wood.
- Remove dead or frost-damaged stems completely.
- After flowering, cut off the faded flower clusters.
- This keeps the plant compact and stops it becoming bare and woody at the base.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: April.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- Curry plant flowers in June–August, when it attracts bees.
- If you only cut back in April, the old stems stand through the winter: insects overwinter in them and birds eat the seeds.
Caution: Do not cut deep into old, leafless wood: it is slow to regrow.
