What else to prune in those months? March · October

Burnet-saxifrage: how to prune it?

  1. Mow or cut off the spent stems once the seed is ripe and brown.
  2. Remove the cuttings so that the soil stays poor.
  3. In one corner, leave some of the stems standing all winter: small insects overwinter in them and birds eat the seeds.
  4. Cut those stems down in March, before the new rosettes start to grow.

How much to cut, and how often?

  • There are 2 pruning periods a year: March and October. You don’t have to prune in every one.

What does it mean for wildlife?

  • As a native plant, it feeds more insects than a non-native species.
