Salad burnet: when to prune it?
In May–July: cut off the flower stems as soon as they appear and cut the plant back if needed for new leaves.
Salad burnet: how to prune it?
- Cut flower stems off at the base, before the flowers open.
- After a heavy harvest or in summer, cut all the leaves back to 3–5 cm above the ground; fresh, young leaves regrow.
- Remove yellowed or damaged leaves throughout the season.
- Leave the green foliage in winter: the plant stays green.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: May–July.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- As a native plant, it feeds more insects than a non-native species.
