Meadow saxifrage: when and how to prune
Saxifraga granulata
Meadow saxifrage is best pruned in July and September.
| Pruning months | July and September |

| Flowering | April–June |
| Native to Belgium | Yes |
Meadow saxifrage: when to prune it?
Mow in July, after seed set; a second cut in September is fine.
Meadow saxifrage: how to prune it?
- Leave the flower stems until the seed capsules are brown and dry.
- Cut at 5–8 cm and rake off the cuttings.
- Rake lightly over the ground at the same time: this spreads the bulbils and gives them room.
How much to cut, and how often?
- There are 2 pruning periods a year: July and September. You don’t have to prune in every one.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- As a native plant, it feeds more insects than a non-native species.
Caution: Do not mow in April–June: you would lose the flowers and the seed.
