Common club-rush: how to prune it?
- Cut all old, brown stems off just above the water surface.
- Remove broken stems that hang in the water as early as autumn.
- In summer you can cut out some of the stems if the stand gets too dense.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: March.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- As a native plant, it feeds more insects than a non-native species.
Caution: Do not cut too late in March: the new stems grow fast and are easily damaged.
