What else to prune in those months? July
Mountain everlasting: how to prune it?
- Cut the stems off just above the mat of leaves.
- Leave a few if you want seed or like the dried flower heads.
- In spring, carefully remove any dead rosettes.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: July.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- Mountain everlasting flowers in May–July, when it attracts butterflies.
- If pruning falls during flowering, wait until it is over or leave part of the plant to flower, so bees and butterflies still benefit.
- As a native plant, it feeds more insects than a non-native species.
Caution: Never cut into the grey mat itself: it grows back only slowly.
