Hoary plantain: when to prune it?

Hoary plantain: how to prune it?
- Mow the meadow, rosettes and all; they lie flat and survive mowing.
- Remove the cuttings so that the soil stays poor.
- Leave a strip uncut until the following spring, as shelter for insects.
- In a border, cut off the spent spikes just above the rosette.
How much to cut, and how often?
- One pruning period a year: August–September.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- As a native plant, it feeds more insects than a non-native species.
