Dionaea muscipula
Venus flytrap is best pruned in March and May.

Venus flytrap: when to prune it?
In March, cut off the dead leaves. In May, remove the flower stalk, unless you want to let it flower or collect seed.
Venus flytrap: how to prune it?
- Snip off black, dead traps and leaves at the base with fine scissors.
- Cut off the flower stalk once it is 5–10 cm tall: the plant then puts its energy into new traps.
- If you want to see the flowers or collect seed, only let a strong, mature plant flower.
How much to cut, and how often?
- There are 2 pruning periods a year: March and May. You don’t have to prune in every one.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- A houseplant lives indoors, so wildlife hardly notices the pruning. Healthy clippings can go on the compost.
Caution: Do not pull at the leaves: cut them off so you do not damage the rhizome.
