Autumn hawkbit: when to prune it?
Mow in June and in October; in a flowering lawn every few weeks.
Autumn hawkbit: how to prune it?
- Mow in June, before the main flowering: the plant then regrows and flowers abundantly in late summer.
- Mow again in October and remove the cuttings so the soil stays poor.
- In a lawn, mow at 6–8 cm: the rosettes and often some of the flowers are spared.
- Leave a strip unmown until spring as shelter for insects.
How much to cut, and how often?
- There are 2 pruning periods a year: June and October. You don’t have to prune in every one.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- As a native plant, it feeds more insects than a non-native species.
