Lady’s mantle: when to prune it?
After the first flush, usually in July, cut everything back. In March, remove the old, withered leaves.
Lady’s mantle: how to prune it?
- After the first flush, cut all flower stems and leaves back to just above the ground.
- Water afterwards: within a few weeks a new clump of fresh leaves appears.
- A small second flush sometimes follows in August–September.
- In March, clear the dead leaves before the new ones emerge.
How much to cut, and how often?
- There are 2 pruning periods a year: March and July. You don’t have to prune in every one.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- Don’t cut more than you need to: what stays standing gives insects and birds food and shelter.
Caution: If you let the flowers set seed, seedlings will pop up everywhere the following year.
