Alpine lady’s mantle: when to prune it?
No real pruning is needed. Cut off the spent flower stems in August and clear the old leaves in March.
Alpine lady’s mantle: how to prune it?
- After flowering, cut the flower stems just above the leaves.
- If the mat looks untidy, trim it lightly after flowering; fresh leaves soon follow.
- In March, comb the dead leaves out of the mat with your fingers or a hand rake.
How much to cut, and how often?
- There are 2 pruning periods a year: March and August. You don’t have to prune in every one.
What does it mean for wildlife?
- Don’t cut more than you need to: what stays standing gives insects and birds food and shelter.
