Hop cone tea

  • Makes: 1 large cup (250 ml)
  • Time: 10 min
  • From: Hop

Ingredients

  • 3–4 fresh hop cones (or 1 teaspoon dried)
  • 250 ml hot water (± 95 °C)
  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional)
  • 1 slice of lemon or orange (optional)

Method

  1. Squeeze the cones lightly to release the lupulin glands.
  2. Put them in a tea glass or a teapot with a strainer.
  3. Pour the hot water over and cover, so the aromas do not escape.
  4. Leave to steep for 8–10 minutes; the longer, the more bitter.
  5. Strain, sweeten to taste with honey and drink warm, with a slice of citrus.

Storing: Drink the tea straight away. Dried hop cones keep for about a year in a dry, dark place.
