Cherry-stone pillow
- Makes: 1 pillow
- Time: 1 hr + 1 week drying
- From: Wild cherry
Ingredients
- ± 400 g cherry stones (from about 6 kg of cherries; save them over a season)
- a cotton or linen bag of about 20 × 25 cm
- needle and thread
Method
- Soak the stones overnight in water, then rub them clean in a colander until no flesh remains.
- Boil them for 10 minutes in water with a splash of vinegar and rinse again.
- Dry them in a thin layer somewhere airy for a week. They must be bone dry, or they will go mouldy.
- Fill the bag two-thirds full and sew it firmly shut.
- Warm the pillow for 1 to 2 minutes in the microwave (600 W) with a cup of water beside it, or put it in the freezer for a cold compress. Always check that it is not too hot.
Storing: Keep it dry; it lasts for years. If it smells musty, dry the stones again.
