Bog myrtle schnapps
- Makes: ± 500 ml
- Time: 15 min + 1 week steeping
- From: Bog-myrtle
Ingredients
- 15 fresh bog myrtle leaves (± 5 g)
- 500 ml genever or vodka (35–40 %)
- 1 strip of unwaxed lemon peel (optional)
- 1 tablespoon honey or 50 g sugar (optional)
Method
- Rub the leaves lightly and put them with the lemon peel in a clean 750 ml jar.
- Pour the spirit over so everything is submerged and close the jar.
- Leave to steep for 5–7 days in a dark place, shaking daily. Taste after 3 days: bog myrtle gives a lot of flavour quickly.
- Strain the spirit through a fine sieve or a coffee filter.
- Stir in honey or sugar if you like, until dissolved.
- Pour into a clean bottle and leave to rest for another week.
Storing: A year or longer, cool and dark. Pour small glasses and drink in moderation.
