Bog myrtle tea

Ingredients

  • 4–5 fresh bog myrtle leaves (or 1 teaspoon dried)
  • 250 ml hot water (± 95 °C)
  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional)
  • 1 slice of orange (optional)

Method

  1. Rub the leaves between your fingers to release the fragrance.
  2. Put them in a tea glass or a teapot with a strainer.
  3. Pour the hot water over and cover, so the aromas do not escape.
  4. Leave to steep for 5 minutes; longer makes the tea bitter and resinous.
  5. Strain, sweeten to taste with honey and drink warm, with a slice of orange if you like.

Storing: Drink the tea straight away and no more than one cup at a time. Dried leaves keep for about a year in a dry, dark place.
