Chokeberry liqueur

Ingredients

  • 300 g black chokeberries
  • 150 g sugar
  • 500 ml jenever or vodka (± 40 %)
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Method

  1. Rinse the berries, leave them to dry thoroughly and crush them lightly with a fork.
  2. Put the berries, sugar and cinnamon in a clean 1-litre jar and pour the alcohol over; everything must be submerged.
  3. Close and shake daily for a week, until the sugar has dissolved. After that, weekly.
  4. Leave to steep for 6–8 weeks in a cool, dark place.
  5. Strain the liqueur, filter it through a coffee filter if you like, and pour it into a clean bottle.
  6. Leave it to mature for another 2 weeks for a softer taste.

Storing: At least a year, tightly closed, in a cool, dark place. Contains ± 25 % alcohol: drink in moderation and not for children.
